David Ortiz

David Ortiz says his wrist is clicking, not good news for Red Sox nation, great news for the Rays

Comment : Suck it up Papi , your team needs you

Carlos Quentin , Not very Smart

September 8, 2008

So Carlos Quentin breaks his hand hitting his bat. How stupid is that ? In the middle of a Pennant race? If you have him on your team there inst much you can do . Try to find a replacement , Cut his butt and make it up with someone else. Many good players are on the waive wire this time of year, You wont replace his power , but hopefully at this point you wont miss him

Have You Saved Pitching Starts ?

September 8, 2008

Every year I play my Fantasy Baseball Teams pretty much the same way. This year ESPN allowed 200 starts and I save about 50 of those for September. Why you ask? Because most everybody else in the league is nearly out of them and I can catch a few points easily in K’s and Wins and steal a category or two. They usually feel hopeless as Wins and k’s are a little harder to come by with middle relief pitchers. Now you need to be careful with your whip and ERA can it can blow up in a hurry. Choose SP’s off teams in contention and you will do very well with this strategy. Good Luck

Fantasy Baseball News, Draft Names or Stats ?

March 27, 2008

Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Carl Crawford Roy Halladay, Ryan Howard. All name we know. All names we draft on draft day. I have a question, who the heck cares about names when we are in a stats league? Your Fantasy Baseball team should be filled with players who put up stats. It should not be all your favorites. It really is that simple. I played in a league with a guy for years, who wanted every known Yankee on his team , not because they were the best players available, but because they were Yankees. Folks that is not smart. If you are in a money league with a guy like this take his damn money and teach him a lesson.

When ever you need a player or want to draft a player, check his number. Is he producing? If not leave him where he is. If you are going to be successful in any league, and by that I mean wining your league, you will have to find guys on the waiver wire that nobody wanted. I picked up Ryan Braun last year who was on waivers. He turned out to be a good pick up right? Those kind of guys are there every year. Have any if you ever picked up a throw away that turned into a keeper. Tell me all about it in a comment!

Who Wants Barry Bonds, Hopefully No One

March 18, 2008

bonds.jpgI just completed a draft this week and for the first time ever in my Fantasy Baseball career, Barry Bonds was not chosen. I have been in leagues with one particular manager who normally does whatever it takes to get him and as of this morning he sits on the waiver wire and the reason is simple. Who wants Barry Bonds? Apparently nobody and I couldn’t be happier.

I don’t now know Barry Bonds nor do I know anyone who knows Barry Bonds. Everything I know about Barry Bonds I have read just like most of you. What I do know, I do not like. I don’t like what he represents. He is a cheater in my mind. Don’t give me that crap that he never tested positive for steroids or human growths hormones. I never was caught speeding in my car until the first time I got caught. So tell me, who wants Barry Bonds? So far no one

Earlier this spring his name surfaced in Tampa Bay as a potential part time DH. Now here is a team with a 40 million dollar payroll, who over the winter traded away trouble makers Delmon Young and Elijah Dukes. Why would they want to pay 10Mil + for someone who is going to play 2-3 times a week and demand his own clubhouse cubicle inside the team clubhouse, not to mention special ordering size 10 hats to fit his steroid inflated head. Really who wants Barry Bonds? 2008 is better off without him. Opps I forgot I guess federal prosecutors do.

bond2.jpgThe facts tell us he hit 762 home runs. As near as I can figure 350 of those had a supplement added. You know, the clear cream he didn’t know he was using. He is a fake. He is a phony. He is a liar. He is through. No, someone will ante up and pay him something so he can try to reach 800 dingers, but buyers beware. Who wants Barry Bonds? For the love of the game, I hope no one does

3 Reasons Why Your Fantasy Baseball Team Sucks

February 16, 2008

yousuck.jpgEvery year we draft a team. Sometimes we have a keeper league or 2. Have you ever noticed how some teams and managers just suck out loud? Year after year, we suffer through their lame excuses of why their team isn’t better. I’m going to list a few reasons why. Tell me what you think, but I have narrowed it down to a few

Falling in Love with your Players

You got favorites don’t you? We all do. Guess what? In fantasy baseball sometime you just have to cut your losses and move on. You are after stats, daily stats and that where your allegiance should end. Not producing? Cut his butt and get someone else. Trade him even if you get the short end of the deal, but get rid of him.

Scared to Trade, Dealing with Wimps

More often than not this is related to the first reason I listed. I have been playing in a league with most of the same guys for years now. We have one guy, I call him the accountant, who spends countless hours analyzing stats, trends and probably has more spread sheets on his desktop than he can keep track of. That’s would be all be well and good but he doesn’t trade. He is absolutely paralyzed by the thought of someone “getting over”’ on him. What a wimp. Make a deal. I was once in a 12 team AL Only team, around the All Start break I traded off 8 players for 8 players. I won the league. It could happen, if you’re not scared to make a move.

Staying Active in your League

People listen; you can improve your standing just by being more active than everyone else. Fantasy Baseball is not a passive activity. Moving players around day to day is part of the process. Besides the rest of the league will hate you if you just plug and play and check your team every two weeks. I’m not saying put a computer in your bedroom, although Im sure that’s what the accountant guy does. Just stay active.

Got a different point of view? Let’s hear it. I’m going to be looking for a few team correspondents very soon. Think you could post a article about your team every week? The contact me asap.

Fantasy Baseball News Draft , The Top 9 Players

February 15, 2008

It’s early but who cares , this is my top 9 players in a fantasy baseball draft. You pick the 10th and tell me what you think.

1. Alex Rodriguez
Just the best there is in fantasy baseball, can’t say anything negative, but if you get the first pick in your draft and don’t pick him, please tell me why

2. Hanley Ramirez
I love this kid, I got him in a trade for Derek Jeter in my keeper league last year, and I never looked back, Jimmy Rollins won the MVP last year and Ramirez numbers were the same or better in most categories

3. Albert Pujols
People say he had an off year. I’ll take his off year anytime, Figure him to rebound and return himself to a place where he rivals A-Rod for the top spot

4. Jose Reyes
The boys and I debate this guy constantly, but he has the tools, and delivers the stats, no denying the facts. If you pass on him, you will regret it.

5. David Wright
I actually drafted Wright in the middle rounds a few years back, when he was a “you drafted who type of guy”. He was in the top ten in every fantasy category so he gets a place in my top 5

6. Chase Utley
I keep waiting for Chase Utley to slow down. Every time I look at the box scores he has put up numbers again, is he that good? In a word. Yes

7. Ryan Howard
He was supposed to deliver power, he does and will again. I offered 13 trades for this guy last year, I still don’t have him, but there is hope of 08

8. Johann Santana
I don’t normally select pitchers in the first round, maybe I should start. He has a new team and team that scores runs, plus he gets free outs in the National League. You are not getting a normal pitcher here.

9. Matt Holiday
The right ball park, the right swing for that ball park, and the result will be another solid year at the fantasy draft board.

Number 10? I’m leaving that one up to you, let me hear from you.
